Apples to Moms

When I was a teenager, I thought my parents were hopelessly uncool. When I became a parent of teens, I realized that most parents have no desire to be cool...at least to their own teens and their friends.

I mean we are talking about kids who live in nice neighborhoods, but pride themselves on being able to speak like rappers (OMG....do they even call them rappers? that's how uncool I am!) These are kids who have never changed a channel without the use of a remote. They have never seen a phone book!

But a few years ago, I did something really selfish that had the unexpected result of making me cool...well, in one regard anyway! I got fed up to my eyeballs with my outdated, slow, virulent PC. At the time I was living just a half-mile from an Apple Store where there was even, get this, VALET PARKING! I walked in there, grabbed myself a "genius" of some kind and bought a MacBook. Of course, once you go Mac, you never go back. So, for the next three years, each computer in my household that got replaced, got replaced with a Mac.

Do you have any idea how much kids with PCs long for Macs? I think it's those Mac vs. PC commercials. Who wants to be the nerd on the left? Don't get me wrong...I WANT to be a nerd, but specifically, an Apple nerd. Now when my kids' friends come into our house and see me on my MacBook, they say things like, "Wow! Your Mom has a Mac? That is so cool!"

I don't even combine my MacBragging to my home. I actually have an Apple decal on the back of my minivan!
